Here's an interesting effort to support Household Helpers as a career. Hopefully human rights and living wages are also on the agenda.

Millions of people in India work their whole lives as household help but few domestic workers have retirement-savings plans other than the hope that their children will care for them in their old age.Now a non-profit organization is offering India’s middle class an option to start mini pension plans for its maids, cooks, drivers and nannies.Delhi-based Micro Pension Foundation has launched a “gift a pension” program which allows employers to sign up their house help for a pension plan started by the Indian government. The foundation’s parent, Invest India Micro Pension Services Pvt. Ltd., has already helped create millions of pension plans for the poor in rural areas, via microlending organizations and government welfare programs.
