I've spoken about this recently – your pets should not be your employer's problem. Some employers are very accommodating, as the Queen's household has been historically, but ultimately it is a tangle in your service relationship.
The head of The Queen’s household, The Lord Chamberlain, has put an end to staff bringing their four-legged companions into work.
It has been a tradition for hundreds of years that staff could bring their dogs into Royal households, so why has the tradition now been broken? Well, the ban is believed to be based on hygiene and security reasons.
It is no secret that The Queen loves her dogs, with her owning a number of corgis throughout her life. Her Majesty The Queen also owns two corgi-dachshund crosses, and she also adopted the corgi of Sandringham groundskeeper, Bill Fenwick, when he died last year.
Because of the love the Royals have for their pooches, it caused quite a shock amongst the staff.
A royal insider said: “Palace staff are up in arms about it. It’s an odd decision considering the Queen and her family are such dog lovers. Obviously, it doesn’t affect the royal corgis!”
It is believed that dogs will not be allowed in any of The Queen’s official residences, including Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Sandringham House in Norfolk.
A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said: “Decisions on allowing staff to bring dogs are taken on a case by case basis, taking into account all practicalities, the potential impact on the fabric of buildings and the owner’s individual circumstances.”
