More good stuff from the new Pope. This time including the domestic staff and treating them like family.
Pope Francis decided to start his 77th birthday off by sharing breakfast with four homeless guests, in which one of them brought his dog.The four homeless people live on a street in the Rome neighborhood just outside the Holy See’s walls. They were invited by the Vatican official in charge of alms-giving to attend the morning Mass that Francis celebrates daily at the hotel where he lives, according to the Associated Press. The birthday pope also invited his household help to join him in a “family-like” atmosphere, and he spoke of each one of them during his homily. After Mass, all were invited to a birthday breakfast with Francis at the hotel’s dining room.Although Francis previously blew out candles on a cake presented by children in the Vatican, he anxiously awaits another anticipated gift: His favorite Argentine soccer team, San Lorenzo, will present the Pope with a replica of their championship trophy on Tuesday. The team’s vice president Marcelo Tinelli, reportedly said, “Arriving on such as special day, like the 77th birthday of the pope, this meeting seems made for God.”Francis represents many changes the church has seen in recent times, making history as one of the more informal and down-to-earth popes. This is not the first time Francis has taken time to reach out to the homeless in his community, making an effort to spend genuine time with those in need.
